Protecting what’s important to you...

One of our most important responsibilities is protecting your investment and personal information. Social Security takes this responsibility very seriously, and we have a robust cybersecurity program in place to help us succeed. We are proud to share this information with you to help get the word out about everything Social Security does to protect the information and resources entrusted to us.

Our Commitment to Protect You

You can be confident we protect your personal information no matter which method of service you select. We have implemented a best in class cybersecurity program that incorporates leading security practices, like real-time identity verification and stringent access control mechanisms, into all technology and systems. This ensures that only authorized personnel handle your data. We also have a 24/7 security operations center that vigilantly monitors our systems for network vulnerabilities, threats, and large-scale security events taking place in our digital environment. With the right security technologies and permissions in place, we quickly detect and address cyber events so you can conduct business seamlessly and securely.

Our Commitment to Protect Your Investment

We model the best practices in cybersecurity and fraud prevention. We lead the federal government in the use of advanced techniques to identify fraudulent behavior. We continuously monitor transactions to detect those demonstrating an intent to defraud us. We respond quickly and decisively to prevent and detect fraud, to collect money stolen from taxpayers, and to prosecute the perpetrators. In addition, we work closely with our Office of the Inspector General, which Congress has designated as the agency lead for fraud detection and prevention.

Our Commitment to Stay Ahead

Data integrity and security, as well as individual privacy, are paramount to our mission of public service. We understand the sensitive nature of the highly personal information and data within our systems. We continually strive to improve security policies and processes, take appropriate corrective action to prevent misuse and unauthorized access to assets and sensitive data, and develop critical enhancements that strengthen our comprehensive, agency-wide cybersecurity program. We are committed to securing your data from emerging threats, preventing misuse or unauthorized access to assets and sensitive data, and adhering to federal policies and regulations.
